Macaroni Kid

Note from the Publisher

I love looking out my home office window and seeing the snow.  I also love the sound of my kids playing in the snow.  What I don't love is the amount of work it takes to get ready to play in the snow!  Boots, hats, gloves, snow pants, jackets....And I always remember the scene from "A Christmas Story" when the little boy gets all ready to go out in the snow and then has to use the bathroom....I don't know about you, but I can totally relate to that one!

I know June 2nd seems so very far off, but please save the date for an event I am planning with Fashionista Roanoke called Passport for Kids.  It's going to be an all day, outdoor event at the Roanoke Civic Center and it's FREE to attend!  We are going to have live entertainment, food, vendors, and lots of great kid activities!  We are very excited about it!  And, if you are interested in vendor opportunities, please let me know asap!  Just email me at jamiec@macaronikid.com

This week is definitely the week to be a fan on Facebook.  We are running a special Fb promotion with KidsDineFree.net with the chance for someone to win a FREE KidsDineFree card!  Who doesn't love FREE?  But, you have to be a fan on Facebook to get in on the action, so don't delay and join us!

The Spring Break Camp Guide is HERE!  And, our Summer Camp Guide is almost done! It will launch next week and then be available on our website each week through June.  You are going to love it and it's going to make your life so much easier as you research and pick camps for your kids for the summer!

An important note:  The Summer Camp Guide will be emailed separately from our weekly newsletter next week.  Meaning, that for this ONE time, you will receive an extra email from me.

Be sure to check out our regular, weekly features!

Throw an Oscars Party for the Kids!

The Oscars, airing on Feb 26th, is Hollywood's biggest night!  I love the red carpet and watching all the movie stars, but I must admit it's not something my kids generally want to watch with me.  Until this year because I have some great ideas for you to plan an Oscar party with your kids!

For starters any good party needs some decorations.  You can create a red carpet in your living room with towels, a yoga mat, even a red table cloth can be folded and made ...

Parent's Page

I am not a perfect parent, are you?

Thursday night at dinner I said to my 4 year old, "If you eat all your broccoli, I'll buy you a DS."  I know many of you are gasping in horror at the crazy statement because on many levels, bribing your child is just wrong.  And, I agree.  Probably not the smartest thing I've ever said as a parent.  But, you don't know Ryan.  And, you probably didn't know that my 2 kids are the only kids in the entire world that don't own a ...

GPS Recycling

Recycling can seem overwhelming, but it’s the simplest of household tasksthat even the kids can help out and learn how much of a difference it makes on ourenvironment by reducing the trash volume.

The first step is to know what recycling options are available where you live. For instance, Roanoke City and Vinton provides a curbside service. If you live in Roanoke Co, Salem, and Franklin Co. you have to haul your materials to drop off locations. Most locations accept mixed paper or just newspapers, plastics 1-7 or just ...

What I'm pinning this week!

I love finding inspiration on Pinterest, and, yes, I've actually done a few of these things.  It's really fun to get ideas and I'm happy to share them with all of you!  If you are already on Pinterest, be sure to follow Macaroni Kid Roanoke.  New pins are being added all the time!

Since we are spotlighting GPS Recycling this week, I thought I'd share a cool idea of something to do with those "old fashioned" lightbulbs we aren't supposed to use anymore!
